Classroom to Center Stage: Harmony Project Students Perform at the Museum of Tolerance
Earlier this month, the halls of the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles were filled with the sounds of a string trio representing some of Harmony Project’s finest young talent. Featuring Jade (violin), Maya (viola), and Stefany (cello), the trio was invited to provide the musical backdrop for a prestigious community event, a connection facilitated by Harmony Project dedicated teaching artist, Ryan Phipps.

The students spent the first hour performing background music as guests arrived, eventually moving to the main auditorium stage to transition the audience into the evening's program. While the music was the highlight, the real value of the evening lay in the professional experience. For young artists, "gigging" is a masterclass in responsibility and self-assurance.
Beyond the technical skill required to perform, these opportunities teach students how to navigate professional environments, engage with a diverse public, and take pride in their work. This was underscored when each student was personally compensated for their artistry; a tangible reward for their hard work.

At Harmony Project, we believe these performances are vital. Experiences like these transform students into community leaders, building a sense of confidence and character that serves them long after the final note is played.
