Brianna’s Journey: From Exposition Park to Cornell University
For graduating senior Brianna, Harmony Project has been far more than just a music program; it has served as a foundational pillar in her personal development and a catalyst for her impressive achievements. Reflecting on her journey, Brianna credits Harmony Project with instilling crucial life skills like discipline and patience. She explains how learning intricate musical elements, from scales to fingerings, taught her to focus on small victories and persevere through challenges, a mindset that seamlessly transferred to her academic pursuits. "It basically just taught me to just keep trying and find new ways to do different things," she shares.

Beyond academic benefits, Harmony Project played a pivotal role in helping Brianna overcome her initial fear of public speaking. Starting with the basic terminology of music, she gradually built confidence in expressing herself, a transformation that extended to presenting in class and even joining the school band. This newfound self-assurance empowered her to embrace new opportunities and step outside her comfort zone.
Participating in Harmony Project also fostered a deeper connection to her cultural heritage. Playing music rooted in her background created a sense of pride and a meaningful link to her family's traditions. This experience highlighted the unique power of music to connect individuals to their identity and community.

Brianna, a first-generation college student, will be attending Cornell University, as she directly attributes Harmony Project to helping her achieve this milestone. The program's consistent structure of weekly classes and rehearsals instilled a strong sense of accountability and the discipline necessary to succeed in her studies. Seeing older students in Harmony Project aspire to and achieve college acceptance also served as a powerful source of inspiration.
Brianna's experience in Harmony Project has even shaped her career aspirations. Witnessing the challenges faced by low-income families in her neighborhood in accessing quality healthcare and language services has ignited a passion within her to address these disparities. Her time with Harmony Project has not only cultivated a talented musician but also nurtured a compassionate and driven young leader determined to make a difference in her community.
