Harmony Project Executive Director and Founder Recognized by State Senator Curren D. Price, Jr.

Harmony Project Executive Director Myka Miller and founder Dr. Margaret Martin were recognized by State Senator Curren D. Price, Jr. on Sunday February 10, 2013 at the 7th Annual "Tribute to SHeroes", honoring community leaders in Los Angeles.

“For all the bad that is bound to happen in a large metropolitan area like LA, it makes you realize how much good is also going on,’ said Senator Price. “This year’s SHeroes are truly exceptional women.

A “SHero” is a woman who has demonstrated leadership, pride, volunteerism, and commitment to her community in a meaningful and enduring manner. Past nominees have been neighborhood activists, artists, community and business leaders, and others who have made substantive differences in the lives of others but may not always be recognized for their contributions.

Harmony Project Music Director Diane Louie Receives HALO Award

The Halo Award, presented by The Carl & Roberta Deutsch Foundation, recognizes both the volunteers who go above and beyond to promote the betterment of their communities and the nonprofit organizations whose work motivates and supports such volunteers. The dual purposes of the award emphasize and celebrate the partnership between individual volunteers and the nonprofits with whom they work.

Diane Louie is a classically trained composer and conductor who has led orchestras worldwide, including the London Symphony, Boston Symphony, and San Francisco Symphony. She has worked with some of the most notable names in the recording industry: Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, Michael McDonald, Roberta Flack, and Placido Domingo, to name a few. Currently, Diane is Supervising Orchestrator for The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, and works regularly on other shows and specials such as the Grammys, American Idol, and the NAACP Image Awards.

Despite the demands of her day jobs, she somehow manages to make us feel like we are her one and only priority – and perhaps we are. Diane spends countless hours every week and every Saturday advancing Harmony Project’s work by teaching music to underserved youth. In recognition of her unwavering commitment to helping change lives through music, and the creative ways in which she sets about this work and engages others in it, Harmony Project nominated Diane for this award.
