Click for full story]]> http://www.harmony-project.org/2012/05/03/2012-donor-event-on-the-huffington-post/ Introducing ‘The Academy at Harmony Project’ The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation recently awarded Harmony Project a grant of $249,918. This support will enable the creation of The Academy at Harmony Project to nurture the talents of Harmony Project music students who have demonstrated exceptional talent and drive.  The Academy will provide a more intensive music education along with supplemental activities to students who want to go beyond the average 5 hours of instruction Harmony Project provides per week, and who are looking towards a career in music.   Students will be admitted to the Academy through teacher recommendation and an audition process.  Academy students will commit to Harmony Project activities (such as youth orchestra participation) in addition to the Academy’s classes, lessons and rehearsals.  The Academy at Harmony Project will serve two essential purposes:   
  • •To enable exceptionally talented Harmony Project students (all from low-income homes) to develop their potential by deepening the musical experiences available to them.

  • •To broaden the outlook of low-income students to enable them see the possibilities the world holds for them if they pursue a college degree in music.
